PRACTITIONER RETREATS
The pursuit for peace and justice within sites of struggle is arduous and demanding work, often exposing practitioners to significant personal, social, colonial and secondary traumas. We recognize the constant state of stress, fear and violence that black bodies in particular are systematically exposed to and expected to endure. Therefore Iziko’s practitioner retreats seek to provide regular opportunities for those who work on the front lines to rest, recuperate and reclaim.
Offering both short (2-3 day) and long term (a week or more) guided residential retreats, we collaborate with practitioners to facilitate spacious programming incorporating mindfulness practice, contemplation, silence, group sharing, short input times and shared meals.
While each retreat is cultivated for participants' particular needs, we formulate our offerings around Iziko’s “Three Pillars of Retreat” -
01.
THE BODY AS LABOUR
We are more than surplus value
02.
RECLAIMING OUR BODIES
The inner transformation of practitioners
03.
REST AS RESISTANCE
Retreat as refusal & subversive action
